60 Days of Impact
This year marks the 60th anniversary since Sister Cities International (SCI) was launched as a major Presidential Initiative by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. SCI was founded on the idea that by forming community-led relationships, people of different cultures could appreciate their differences and build partnerships to lessen the chance of new national conflicts.
With a focus on major countries involved in World War II and a mission to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual one community at a time – SCI began creating relationships between cities in the U.S. and cities abroad in order to implement cultural, educational, business, and community development exchanges.
Over the past 60 years SCI has grown dramatically, with 570 member communities forming 2,300 partnerships in 150 countries on six continents.
To highlight 60 years of building peaceful global relationships through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation, SCI will host 60 Days of Impact, an online campaign that will feature dynamic content for 60 days beginning May 14, 2016 and ending on day one of the Annual Conference, July 13, 2016.
Each day, content will include moving stories, photos, and videos from the SCI archives, as well as original blog posts from experts and Q&As from Mayors and Ambassadors and other thought leaders.
